Why you’ll find us at Kent Law Society’s Domestic Abuse and the Law Conference
We’re looking forward to joining legal professionals and specialist practitioners in Canterbury this September for the Oasis & Kent Law Society Conference: Domestic Abuse and the Law.
It’s an important opportunity to share knowledge about supporting people affected by domestic abuse, but also to talk about something that can sometimes be overlooked: the wellbeing of the professionals doing this demanding work. That’s a conversation The Solicitors’ Charity wants to be part of.
We’ll be present throughout the day and talking about solicitor wellbeing and the support available when professional and personal pressures begin to take their toll.
Many solicitors can also experience domestic abuse and violence and the workplace is often the only “safe space” to confide in colleagues or make that call to a specialist service. We recommend resources from Domestic Abuse Education (championed by DA survivor, Sharon Livermore CBE):

Supporting the people who support others
The conference brings together lawyers, police, academics and frontline domestic abuse specialists to explore issues including trauma, safeguarding, financial remedies, and violence against women and girls.
Importantly, it also creates space to talk about the wellbeing of the professionals doing this work. Solicitors can spend their careers listening to difficult experiences, managing emotionally charged situations and carrying significant responsibility for the people they advise. It is important that they know support exists for them too.
The Solicitors’ Charity provides confidential, tailored support for emotional, physical, professional, and financial wellbeing for solicitors and their dependants. That might mean talking through a difficult period with a Case Manager, accessing specialist wellbeing support, receiving practical help or finding a way forward when professional and personal pressures begin to overlap.
Come and talk to us
We’ll be at the conference throughout the day, so if you are attending, come and say hello! You can find out more about the support available, ask us questions, or simply have a conversation about some of the pressures you are seeing across the profession.
We’re also keen to hear from firms and legal organisations about how they support the wellbeing of their teams and how we can work together to make sure solicitors know where to turn when they need help.
