Hampshire Law Society encourages a “Collective Commitment” in support of The Solicitors’ Charity
Hampshire Incorporated Law Society (HILS) take great pride in supporting our legal community, not only through professional development and networking, but also by ensuring a strong support system is in place for solicitors and their families during challenging times. One of the key ways they do this is through their long-standing support for The Solicitors’ Charity.
The Solicitors’ Charity has been providing crucial assistance to solicitors in need for over 160 years, offering financial aid, emotional support, and practical resources to those facing hardship. Hampshire Law Society firmly believe that looking after legal professionals extends beyond the workplace. That’s why, year after year, HILS members unanimously reaffirm their commitment to supporting the charity

Supporting members of the legal profession is at the core of what HILS do. Their committee members and former presidents have actively championed The Solicitors’ Charity, and it remains a key topic in their annual general meetings. Each year, the Hampshire Law Society committee and members vote to continue our financial support, reinforcing our belief that no solicitor should face difficulty alone.
They recognise that solicitors dedicate their careers to helping others, yet they too can experience unforeseen financial or personal hardships. Whether they are currently practising or have retired, they deserve a safety net that ensures they receive the necessary support when they need it most. The Solicitors’ Charity provides just that – and Hampshire Law Society are proud to stand by the charity.
Encouraging other law societies to get involved
Many law societies across England and Wales are dedicated to supporting their members, and we’re grateful for their commitment. At The Solicitors’ Charity, we encourage law societies to get involved in any way they can – whether through donations, fundraising events, or simply raising awareness among members. Every effort helps us continue providing vital support to solicitors in need. Even a small contribution can have a meaningful impact on a solicitor’s life.
Kevin Richardson, President of Hampshire Law Society shared: “Collectively, law societies have the power to ensure that no member of our profession is left without support in difficult times. By aligning with The Solicitors’ Charity, law societies can extend their mission of supporting and educating legal professionals beyond the office and courtroom”.
A commitment to care
We’re grateful for the ongoing support of HILS, whose commitment to The Solicitors’ Charity reflects a shared belief in a legal profession that looks after its own. As long as their members approve, HILS will continue to support us, subject to financial capability, ensuring that solicitors who have dedicated their careers to justice receive help when they need it most.
“Our commitment reflects our belief in a legal profession that takes care of its own, ensuring that those who have dedicated their careers to justice receive help when they need it most”.
We encourage other law societies to join them in supporting our work. Together, we can strengthen the legal community and ensure no solicitor faces hardship alone. Every contribution, no matter how small, can make a lasting difference.
