Celebrating International Day of Charity – the life-changing impact of The Solicitors’ Charity
Every year on 5th September, International Day of Charity reminds us of the powerful role charitable giving plays in transforming lives, building community spirit, and promoting global solidarity. Established by the United Nations in 2012, and in memory of Mother Teresa, the day encourages people around the world to donate their time, resources, or skills to support those in need.
At The Solicitors’ Charity, we see the incredible impact of charity every single day – and thanks to donations and investments, we can continue to change lives across the profession. This year, to mark International Day of Charity, we’re proud to share just a few stories that show how our support has helped solicitors navigate life’s toughest challenges – and come out stronger on the other side.
Dan’s story – finding support after personal loss
Dan was a solicitor who found himself overwhelmed after a series of devastating personal losses. Grieving and struggling to manage day-to-day life, Dan reached out to The Solicitors’ Charity. Our team offered immediate financial assistance to relieve pressure and connected him with a professional counsellor to help him rebuild his emotional wellbeing. With support, Dan regained stability and began moving forward with hope.
Sarah’s story – A lifeline after ill health
Sarah’s successful legal career was suddenly put on hold when her health took a serious turn. Unable to work and facing increasing financial hardship, Sarah turned to The Solicitors’ Charity. We stepped in with financial support and helped her access the medical care and rehabilitation she needed. Today, Sarah is in a much stronger position – both physically and financially.
Naomi’s story – rebuilding after redundancy
When Naomi was made redundant, she felt lost, anxious, and unsure of her next steps. The sudden change impacted her confidence and finances. The Solicitors’ Charity not only provided financial relief, but also offered coaching and career development support. With renewed confidence and clarity, Naomi is now exploring exciting new opportunities.
These are just a few examples of the meaningful, tailored support we provide. Whether it’s help with emotional, professional, physical, or financial wellbeing, The Solicitors’ Charity is here to support solicitors through life’s ups and downs.
Our recent Big Report shines a light on the scale and significance of this work – revealing the real-world difference our support makes to solicitors across England and Wales.
Behind every story is a team that cares
None of this would be possible without the incredible dedication of our case managers and the wider charity team. Their compassion, expertise, and commitment ensure that every solicitor receives the right help at the right time. A huge thank you to our team of Case Managers for their role in changing lives!
Case Manager, Paul, shared: “Every person we support has a unique story, and it’s a privilege to walk alongside them during some of their most difficult moments. What drives us is knowing that our work can restore hope and dignity when it’s needed most.”
