How our partnership with Citizens Advice Manchester supports solicitors
When a solicitor is struggling financially, knowing where to turn can make all the difference.
That’s where our partnership with Citizens Advice Manchester (CAM) comes in. Their expert advisers have been on hand to offer clear, confidential guidance to solicitors referred through our Wellbeing and Grants Team, mainly helping people with specialist benefits advice to do with Personal Independence Payments and Universal Credit which helped to steer them towards a more stable future.
In 2024 alone, CAM supported 39 solicitors through 124 separate issues. Behind each of these issues was a person navigating a difficult moment and, with CAM’s support, they were given the tools and clarity to take their next steps forward.
Dan Pye, Chief Operating Officer at Citizens Advice Manchester, said: “It can be very challenging to navigate the benefits system, but with the right advice and support it is possible to see a sustainable future. We’re really pleased to be working in partnership with The Solicitors’ Charity in supporting their clients to find a way forward.”
The impact of this work was significant. Over the course of the year, CAM helped solicitors achieve more than £114,000 in income gains. Most support was provided by phone and email, ensuring that solicitors could access the help they needed quickly, flexibly, and in confidence, wherever they were.
Abi Stidston, Head of Wellbeing & Grants at The Solicitors’ Charity, said: “The support CAM provides can be life changing. Solicitors can come to us in moments of real difficulty, and thanks to this partnership, they receive expert guidance tailored to their circumstances.
She added: “Interestingly, 83% of the clients we referred to CAM were female and one in two individuals seeking help had a disability or long-term health condition”.
This partnership is part of our broader commitment to financial wellbeing, one of the four pillars of support we offer alongside emotional, physical, and professional wellbeing. But more than that, it’s about standing beside solicitors when life feels uncertain. By working with Citizens Advice Manchester, we’re helping people find clarity in the chaos, regain a sense of control, and start to rebuild with dignity and hope. As the profession continues to evolve, so, too, does our support, always rooted in care, and always ready to provide tailored solutions for solicitors whatever they are facing.
